Some of the most amazing essential oils we have today are those that have been revered for thousands of years. Myrrh essential oil has stood the test of time, being prized in ancient Egyptian embalming, traditional Middle Eastern medicine, and Ayurvedic medicine. Historically it has been used for everything from wounds to mouth ulcers to leprosy. Its name comes from the Hebrew word “mor” which means “bitterness.” Ironically enough, today Myrrh is used as a flavoring in food and beverages.
Modern research on Myrrh essential oil has shown that gum inflammation, diarrhea, bronchitis, coughing, wounds, eczema, bed sores, and anxiety. The ancients knew what they were talking about.
